The spermatozoa are examined under immersion oil using an inverted microscope (TI-DH; Nikon Instruments Italia) equipped with Nomarski optics enhanced by digital imaging to achieve a magnification of up to X 1500. The images captured by a colour video camera for high-quality image production and analysed using image processing software (NIS-Element Documentation, Nikon).
