Semen evaluation

Diagnostics - Semen evaluation

Semen evaluation represents one of the first tests done to determine whether a man has a problem fathering a child providing important information about the quality and quantity of the sperm. It is fundamental at the primary care level to make a rational initial diagnosis and to select the appropriate clinical management. The semen sample is evaluated for volume, viscosity (thickness), pH and color of the ejaculate, sperm concentration, motility, morphology, and forward progression of the sperm. The sample is also examined for the presence of white or red blood cells which may indicate infection or inflammation.
